SSI attends several academic and industry conferences each year and gives presentations based on technical papers related to the shipbuilding and CAD/CAM industry. In recent years, SSI has authored papers for the International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding (ICCAS), International Conference on Computer and IT Applications in the Maritime Industries (COMPIT), Mari-Tech, RINA-WARSHIP, Canadian Conference on Modern Shipbuilding, and the Offshore Patrol Vessel Conference.
Writing these academic papers and attending these conferences is a way for SSI to engage with the industry and to discuss and learn about innovations in ship building and computer technology.
CEO Darren Larkins, CTO Denis Morais, and PR Coordinator Mark Waldie have been the primary authors over the last few years, and during this time, they have written on a variety of practical applications of CAD/CAM software and the shipbuilding business.
For instance, there has been a paper related to Virtual Reality and how user-friendly and inexpensive software is making sophisticated technology available to a wide group of users (democratization).
Another paper talked about Marine Drafting, i.e. generating 2D classification drawings from a 3D model.
There was a paper on CAD and ERP integration and another on Empowered Engineering, by which we meant how to leverage Engineering data for use in other business applications and processes.
Some of these papers talk about new or innovative uses of ShipConstructor software. Other papers talk about products under development.
We have given recommendations to government officials regarding industry and government collaboration.
And, we have also written an award-winning (and somewhat provocative) heavily researched academic paper comparing shipbuilding with the automotive and aerospace industries to show how cutting edge technology is used elsewhere.
Sometimes these papers are shortened and simplified and then picked up by trade magazines, but if you want the full-strength, unfiltered, unedited, full-blooded, full details, versions, please visit the white papers section in the press kit of www.ssi-corporate.com.
